TEFL 521 grounds you in how foreign language teaching has actually been theorized and practiced, moving from the historical succession of methods to the cognitive, social, and affective factors that shape why some approaches work for some learners. You read across several textbooks rather than one, give poster and oral presentations, write papers, and ultimately design and justify lesson plans that you micro-teach to peers. It's a foundational graduate course in the TEFL program, meant to give you the theoretical vocabulary and methodological awareness you'll lean on in practicum and in any later course on skills teaching, assessment, or curriculum design.
