CI 542 Principles of Instructional Design

Instructional design is the engineering side of teaching: instead of just "preparing a lesson," you treat instruction as a system to be analyzed, built, and tested against evidence that learners actually learned. Across the semester you carry one design project through every stage, needs analysis, learner/context analysis, task analysis, objectives written against Bloom's taxonomy, Gagné-style sequencing, a prototype, and a Kirkpatrick-flavored evaluation plan, each presented for peer review, alongside six case studies from K-12 and adult settings. It's a foundational graduate course for the curriculum and instruction track, giving you the vocabulary and process that later courses in e-learning, materials development, and program evaluation all assume you already know.
