This graduate seminar surveys where applied linguistics actually sits right now, the live debates around how people learn and use language, who they become through it (identity, ELF, intercultural competence), and how SLA theory is being pulled in new directions by digital practice and critical discourse work. You'll read primary scholarship each week and build a learning portfolio alongside take-home midterm and final exams, meaning the work is sustained analytical writing rather than memorization. It's a core piece of the TEFL MA: the conceptual map you build here is what later thesis work, classroom decisions, and professional development end up drawing on.
