TEFL 551 Research Seminar I

This is the first methods course in the TEFL graduate sequence, where you learn to read empirical language-teaching research the way a researcher does, interrogating how a study's design, instruments, and statistics actually support (or fail to support) its claims. Most of the term is spent working through "concept-to-practice" cases that move from framing a research question to choosing instruments, running quantitative analyses, and interpreting group differences, change over time, and associations without overreaching into causal stories. The portfolio captures your accumulating critiques and methodological justifications, which sets you up to design and defend your own thesis study in Research Seminar II.
