Sport is the lens here for studying how power, identity, and money move across borders, the course treats elite athletics as a serious site of international politics rather than entertainment, tracing the line from 19th-century Britain to today's global arenas. You'll work through weekly themes like nation-building, race, gender, diplomacy, and political economy, give a presentation, write response papers, and produce a final essay that makes an argument rather than summarizing readings. It pairs well with IR theory and foreign policy courses, giving you a concrete case study for how non-state actors, states, and audiences negotiate legitimacy on a stage that most people already follow.
