China's rise is reshaping global politics, and this course treats that shift as a puzzle to be analyzed rather than a headline to react to, how Beijing wields infrastructure, trade, and soft power abroad, how its Party-state past shapes present strategy, and how Washington, Moscow, and others are responding. Expect a discussion-driven semester built around lectures, quizzes, a midterm and final, plus a group presentation where you'll dig into a specific case like Belt and Road, the AI race, or the decoupling debate. It pairs naturally with the broader IR sequence on great-power politics and international political economy, giving you the regional depth to argue seriously about where the international order is heading.
