COMD 434 Special Topics in Journalism

Journalism here is treated as a craft you practice under pressure rather than a subject you read about: you wrestle with what counts as fact, evidence, and a story worth telling while actually producing the work. Across the semester you'll pitch, report, shoot, edit, and present four news projects, including street interviews and field pieces for both traditional and online formats, defending your proposals to the class before each round. It builds on the foundational reporting and writing courses in the COMD track and sharpens the editorial judgment you'll need for thesis work, internships, or any newsroom-adjacent career.
