NMR is the workhorse tool organic chemists use to figure out what a molecule actually looks like, and this course is about reading those spectra fluently enough to deduce an unknown structure from scratch. You'll spend most of your time interpreting 1H and 13C spectra, reasoning about chemical shifts, coupling patterns, spin systems, and NOE signals, and assembling those clues into a coherent structural argument, with two written midterms testing how well you can do it under time pressure. It assumes you already know your organic functional groups cold, and pays off the moment you hit a research lab where every new compound you make lands on the NMR before anything else.
