This is a graduate-level deep dive into *why* organic reactions happen the way they do, treating mechanism as the central object of study rather than a footnote to product prediction. You'll work through heterolytic processes, pericyclic reactions, oxidations, reductions, and C-C bond formation by reading the kinetic and stereochemical evidence that actually pins down a mechanism, with problem sets and a report built around interpreting that experimental data. Expect Carey & Sundberg as your spine and Carruthers & Coldham for synthetic strategy; if undergrad organic taught you the arrows, this course teaches you how anyone knew where to draw them, and it's the foundation you'll lean on for any later work in synthesis, catalysis, or chemical biology.
