Graduate statistical physics is really about one question: how do the deterministic laws governing zillions of microscopic degrees of freedom give rise to the sharp, universal macroscopic behavior we actually observe, temperature, phase transitions, condensates. You'll move from ensembles and the Liouville picture through mean-field theory and the renormalization group, working homework sets and a presentation alongside two midterms and a final, with Kardar's two volumes (and Huang) as the spine. It's the bridge between the thermo/quantum mechanics you already know and modern condensed matter, field theory, and soft matter research, the language most of theoretical physics speaks once you leave single-particle problems behind.
