LNG 171 Turkish I

LNG 171 is the entry point into Turkish for international students with no prior background, built around the A1.1 level of the CEFR, meaning the goal is functional survival in everyday situations rather than grammatical mastery for its own sake. You'll spend the semester working through the İstanbul A1 textbook in small communicative chunks: introducing yourself, shopping, asking the time, describing your family and hometown, and eventually narrating simple past activities, with regular speaking practice, an in-class essay, and a presentation alongside the midterm and final. It's a standalone elective for non-Turkish speakers and the natural prerequisite for LNG 172, where the same four skills get pushed into A1.2 and early A2 territory.
