Blockchain and smart contracts don't fit neatly into existing legal categories, and this course is essentially about figuring out where the friction is, when a DAO acts, who is liable; when code self-executes a contract, what role is left for contract law; when an NFT changes hands, what actually transferred. You'll work through these questions via a research essay, a presentation, and ongoing class discussion rather than doctrinal exams, comparing how different jurisdictions are trying to regulate the same technology. It's a useful complement to core contract, property, and IP courses, since it forces you to apply those frameworks to fact patterns the original doctrine never anticipated.
